Jamaica Violent Scenes X Drake (Find Your Love Video)

Golden boy Drake has finally come a cropper. There have been some salty reactions to his recent video: Find Your Love. The video’s shot in various locations in Jamaica by director Anthony Mandler. The Jamaican tourist board have expressed both disappointment and anger with the impression of the island given in the video.  Recently the country’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said:

“We just have to say that care has to be taken by all, including our creative artistes, in portraying images of our destination and people,” Bartlett told the Jamaican Gleaner. “Gun culture, while not unique to Jamaica, is not enhancing (the island’s image).”

The Find Your Love Video sees a doughy-eyed Drake falling in love with the local bad-mans girlfriend. One thing leads to another, Drake has some forced/awkward conversation with a random old man (0.13)..who possibly speaks truth..when he says..THE MUSIC COMES FIRST!

pffff…so the drug lord (played by Dancehall artist Movado) kills Drake in a menacing way..and in all honesty it isn’t a great look for Jamaica. I spent two weeks there recently and saw nothing but good things. It’s not a place without problems, but there are very few places on Earth that are. For such a small island Jamaica has had a massive possitive influence on the world. It’s a vibrant lively place where the vast majority of the people would rather come together and party than kill each other. Of course there are murders on the island..but there are many other postive things happening there too.

I think it’s a shame that Drake (and his creative team) relied on cliches rather than thinking outside the box. Black music has enough negativity from outside sources without one of it’s own adding to it. Perhaps they have done the double bluff and the whole thing is a publicity stunt. Or perhaps it’s just lazy film making. So all in all. A wack video for a wack song.

Big up on this one Craig. Yeah man, Drake is quite quite typical is the churned out R’n'B bullshit that America is pushing out these days, and this is a very nothing track. They tried to make it exiting with this video, but, as you mentioned they just lazily relied on cliches. Movado IS a badman though eh?
I hope the problems in Jamaica with settle down soon.
I like the nice positive images. Peace.
