Single use Syringe X Marc Koska

New tee shirt drops and mixatpes aside, Marc Koska is a name that should be on every ‘cool’ persons lips. Marc came up with the design for a one use only syringe back in 1984 after reading a newspaper article talking of the AIDS virus and it’s imminent doom. These days there are around 23,000 HIV infections due to unsafe injections as well as 1 million hepatitis C and a huge 21 million hepatitis B infections down to dirty syringes. This results in about 1.3 million deaths per year. The World Heath Organisation states that more than half of all injections in the developing world are carried out with re-used or unsterile equipment.

Bright spark Mark came up with the  once use only syringe or the K1 as it’s affectionately known.  The auto dissable mechanism means that once the syringe plunger has been pressed inwards it can’t be used again. Word is that Marc’s invention has saved up to 10 million lives…now that’s better news than another over priced tee shirt isn’t it??

Marc’s next stop? Africa!
